ZIMMERMAN, Minn. (AP) — A medical examiner’s report has revealed more about the deaths of a mother and her two young children in eastern Minnesota.
Sherburne County sheriff’s officials say autopsies determined the deaths of 7-year-old Josephine Shields and her 6-year-old brother Nolan are due to drowning and that their mother, Stephanie Shields, likely committed suicide.
Authorities say toxicology tests are pending in the death of the 35-year-old mother. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office performed the autopsies on Monday.
A neighbor of the Shields family called 911 after discovering the bodies in their home in Zimmerman Sunday. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension helped Sherburne County sheriff’s deputies investigate the case.
