Pathway to Success

MASON CITY, IA – A local community college is honoring a handful of students for their achievements in school

The North Iowa Area Community College is rewarding the students for their leadership, character and scholarship as part of the “Pathways to Success Program.”

76 students received the NIACC Student Leadership award for their outstanding dedication to their studies.

Keynote speaker and NIACC alumna, Karel Murray says community colleges allow students to focus and get a great base for a 4 year university.

Murray said. “Once we start going to be a 4 year school all of a sudden you’re just one of multiples and at that point you get distracted really easily from whether it’s going to be the parties or all the course offerings, maybe it’s a distraction because an instructor that suddenly opened up your mind to a different possiblity, so it just kind of exploded from there.”

Murray was also awarded the “NIACC Outstanding Alumni Award” for her motivational public speaking.
