It seems like she’s been around the West Hancock athletic program forever, and she’s been competing at the highest level. From her freshman season at state track, to a storied cross country career, our student athlete of the week has done it all. Kamille Kronemann is our Student Athlete of the Week.
“When it happened, I wasn’t really expecting it, because I was a freshman” said Kamille. In her first year of high school, Kamille captured state wide attention, by winning a state championship in the mile run. When she crossed the finish line, in first, we knew something special was on the horizon. “When I think back to it, I guess I’m like ‘oh yeah, I did win’. I don’t think anything of it. It doesn’t make me think I’m better than anyone else, or put me in a better position. I still have to practice just as hard as anyone else.”
From that point on, Kamille has put on quite the show. From numerous cross country winds, to a stellar four years on the oval, she’ll be leaving the Eagles program, as one of the best ever.
According to her coach Mark Sanger, “There’s a laundry list of the success she has had down at the state meet. To me, I don’t think she expects anything less. What it will be in, we will see by the end of the year.
As coach Sanger mentions, Kamille is a versatile athlete, last year she started hurdling and made it to state. Who knows what will happen, after a full year of practice. “
“Just the fact that I can get in more events and then just do my best in those, helps the team out,” said Kamille. “And with everybody else, doing their best, that’s going to help the team just as much.”
As always, we are on the lookout for future student athlete’s of the week. If you know of someone looking for a break out spring season, fill out the nomination form by clicking here.
