CLEAR LAKE, IA – Second grade teacher Janet Boehnke has a smile her students can’t help but notice.
Second Grader, Nick Brcka said, “I think she smiles when she knows that we did something right.”
And that enthusiasm is a clear sign Janet truly loves her job.
Boehnke said, “When they have that “Ah-Ha” moment and they learn something new and later on in the day they come back to me and they say “Oh Mrs. Boehnke, we were talking about this this morning and here’s another example” and that’s exciting.”
Her students like to have fun while learning, but they appreciate something even more.
Brcka said, “She teaches me what she knows I need to know and she’s patient with me. It makes me feel like I don’t have to rush through my work.”
Janet is also a self-proclaimed sports fanatic and uses that to connect with her students.
She said, “We talk about the games before and we talk about them after and so it’s just fun to talk sports with the kids and about their favorite football teams and basketball teams. And it just brings their life into the classroom, because it’s not only about their lives in the classroom it’s about their lives outside of the classroom.”
And she says athletics can teach some valuable life lessons.
Boehnke said, “If they don’t get it the first time, I’ll get it the next time and it might be the third time, but to keep trying, always keep trying.”
And for these 2nd graders, they love Janet’s class so much, they’d like to stick around for a while.
Brcka said, “I don’t wanna move onto 3rd grade but I know I will because of her.”
