ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is holding a public hearing on a proposal that would give a South Dakota-based company control over Fairview Health Services and the University of Minnesota’s medical center.
Sanford Health of Sioux Falls, S.D., has proposed acquiring Fairview Health Services. The hearing is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Capitol, and representatives from Fairview Health, Sanford and the university are expected to testify.
Swanson has raised concern that putting one of the state’s largest hospital systems in the hands of an outside company is not in the best interests of Minnesotans.
Last week, the university disclosed that it has also proposed to take over Fairview Health Services.
Fairview and Sanford Health officials have said their talks are only in the early stages.
