Northwood, Iowa – It’s of no secret that the town of Northwood has been struggling with replacing law enforcement ever since three have stepped down in the past month.

They’re now down to one in Northwood – and he says he’s ready to leave, too.

“But it’s to that point where this has got to move forward. I have to get somebody else here working, that’s just to the point,” said Dennis Paulson.

That last officer, and many other community members, gathered at the City Council meeting tonight to vent their frustration, wondering why city leaders are taking so long to hire a Police Chief and re-staff the department.

For now, it appears the Worth County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide law enforcement for the city.

“Two years ago we came and sat down and came up with a very serious proposal. I was going to save them 100,000 dollars and that took about four, five, six months of going back and forth trying to discuss that.  My proposal never changed those two years ago,” said Sheriff Jay Langenbau.

Right now the city council will wait for Langenbau to give them an estimate of how much it would cost they city for worth county to take over law enforcement for the city, permanently.
