MASON CITY, IA – 89-year-old Ralph Stricker was charged in early February with livestock neglect.
The incident occurred after a horse was found lying on Stricker’s property near a county road.
The animal was injured and had to be put down. Today, Stricker was sentenced to serve two consecutive terms of 30 days in jail however that sentence was suspended. Instead, he will be placed on probation for one year.
The terms of his probation include removing all animals of husbandry from his property by May 10, 2013.
He cannot acquire new animals of husbandry or horses and the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department can inspect his property within the thirty day period and during the year of his probation.
If Stricker does not comply, a revocation hearing will be scheduled.
