KIMT News 3

KIMT News 3 — As we’ve seen around our area, weather can take a turn for the worse at any time.

And folks throughout Minnesota are preparing.

Today is the kickoff of “Severe Weather Awareness Week” all over the state.

From alerts and warnings, to tornado drills, emergency management personnel say it’s important to be ready when Mother Nature strikes.

“It’s very important that your family knows what to do,” Mower County Emergency Management and Safety Coordinator Amy Lammey said. “Stay away from windows; be prepared outside when you hear lighting. And especially with the tornado, make sure you are prepared to go to your safe place whether you’re indoors or outdoors. >

Tornado drills are being held on Thursday across Minnesota.

One will be in the afternoon and another in the evening to give families and businesses a chance to practice.
