Northwood, Iowa – For Dennis Paulson, an Officer for the Northwood Police Department, it’s a decision he’s been waiting to hear.

“A lot of relief, lot of stress gone knowing that we’re actually moving in a direction now instead of everything being pushed back, pushed back, pushed back,” said Paulson.

Once the paperwork is finalized, Paulson will be a City Deputy with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.

And it’s a relief for a man that’s had a lot on his plate.

“Now it’s looking pretty promising. I’ll have someone else here to help me out with the situation other than just myself always on duty and always patrolling,” said Paulson.

Three officers have resigned in the past month – and that’s left Paulson on his own.

So last week he went before council members, telling them how hard it’s been – as the final member of the Northwood Police Department.

That prompted the city council to ask Sheriff Jay Langenbau to come up with a proposal, detailing the costs of having his deputies’ take over.

And he was happy to do it.

“I believe that our proposal is a very good proposal and I think this city will get the best patrol they’ve had in a long time if not better,” said Langenbau.

In the proposal Langenbau will hire the lone officer and then hire four more as City Deputies.

And for Paulson he says that idea is not only good for him, but the city as well.

“Now that we’re actually moving in a direction and taking the steps to make a decision to get officers here so I’m not the only one is awesome,” said Paulson.
