Mason City, Iowa – Speaking of safety, leaders in Mason City are making sure local parks are free of crime.

But they’re asking for some help.

The park watch program needs volunteers.

The goal of organizers is to have local people volunteer some of their time this spring and summer to keep an eye on six local parks.

Rachel Pike, the Volunteer Service Coordinator, believe it will help reduce vandalism and mischief in the area.

“Vandalism costs the city a lot of money, and in the past when we’ve had the park watch program running we’ve saved, and keeping our parks beautiful and the integrity of them is important to us,” said Pike.

If you do want to help out, there are just a few requirements: You have to be 18 years old, with a valid driver’s license.

Pike hopes to have more than 40 people signed up for the program.
