North Iowa Students Are Going Green

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – With Earth Day just around the corner, some north Iowa elementary students are doing their part to make their communities greener.

Clear Lake, Mason City, Ventura and Garner Elementary school students painted compost bins that were donated by Kramer Ace Hardware.

The bins were auctioned off at the Green Expo in Clear Lake and all the money they raise goes right back to the schools.

“We’re trying to teach them to put less things in the landfill and it also makes a great additive to the soil so you can improve your soil quality if you’re a gardener or if you’re growing potted plants,” says Kris Kramer from Kramer Ace Hardware.

Those bidding on the compost bins had to place a minimum bid of $35. The money the schools raise will go toward new art supplies.
