Mason City, Iowa – Folks in Mason City are getting a chance to speak their minds tonight on two new city ordinances being proposed that city leaders say will keep trouble out of River City.
The concern is over properties that are impacting neighborhoods in a negative way.
City leaders say right now it is difficult for landlords and administrators to handle issues that come up with “Problem Properties”.
So the new proposals would allow the city to remove a landlord’s rental permit, or charge a homeowner or business owner to clean up their property if they’re cited as a nuisance.
But not all landlords, such as Ed Kent, are on board with the ideas.
“The point where the landlords will have a clear and consistent understanding as to what their obligations are and that we don’t end up becoming a victim of circumstances,” said Kent.
The two new city ordinances proposed were approved in the first reading earlier this month.
The council will talk more about the issue at their next meeting on May 7th.
