AUSTIN, Minn. — A generous grant is paving the way for a new grandstand in Austin.

The Hormel Foundation is giving 275,000 dollars towards a new grandstand at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

The old structure was deemed unsafe in 2012, and demolished during a controlled burn earlier this year.

The grant was the last piece needed to make the new 1,500 seat feature happen.

“Which is going to make this project a reality,” County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said. “To go from a 1,000 seat system to 1,500 seat system to provide all the necessity, so to speak the betterment, so that it cannot only be used for the fair, but it could be used throughout the year.>

He says without the grant, it is possible the project would have been either delayed or canceled.
They expect the structure to be ready before the fair this summer.
