Freeborn County, MN – Charges are expected to be filed soon against an Albert Lea man who was taken into custody after a standoff last night.
Edward Olmeda was arrested in Clarks Grove. The standoff began when a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to stop Olmeda, who was wanted on several felony warrants.
He led the deputy on a short vehicle and then foot chase, and then barricaded himself in a shed behind an unoccupied home. That’s when a SWAT team was called in to help.
“The potential danger or loss of life to our staff and to the individual as well. SWAT is used to ensure that everybody can go home safely,” said Chief Deputy Glen Strom of the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
The standoff lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. Nobody was injured.
