$500 reward offered in Iowa decapitated dog case

FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) — A $500 reward has been offered to whoever helps authorities find the person who decapitated a dog that had been missing from an animal shelter in southeast Iowa.

The Fort Madison Daily Democrat says (http://bit.ly/ZRotIg ) supporters of the Protectors of Animal Welfare shelter posted the award offer and said people with information should contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Shelter manager Sandy Beasley Brown says the dog went missing early last week. A shelter worker who was walking another dog found the missing dog’s body on Thursday. It’s unclear whether the missing dog had jumped a fence to escape the shelter or was stolen and killed.

No arrests have been reported.
