Dog named Baby helps Waterloo family escape fire

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — An anxious lab-pit bull mix named Baby is credited with awakening its owner and saving her family from an early morning fire in Waterloo.

Krista Kipper tells the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (http://bit.ly/18jZr5v ) she woke up about 5 a.m. Tuesday because her 1-year-old dog “was kind of running around.”

She quickly realized she was having trouble breathing or seeing, and realized her room was filled with smoke.

Kipper woke up her roommate and they found their upper-level apartment was on fire. They rushed downstairs and awoke Kipper’s mother and two children.

Firefighters then arrived and extinguished the fire — and rescued the dog.
