Officials: I-35 in Warren County will open in days

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say it will take several days to reopen traffic along a bridge on Interstate 35 in Warren County that was damaged by an oversized truck.

The state Department of Transportation said in a release Tuesday that it expects to reopen northbound lanes of Interstate 35 at mile marker 58.5 after midnight Friday.

Police closed that portion of the freeway Monday night after an oversized truck crashed into an overpass. Officials determined the overpass wasn’t safe to drive on or pass beneath. The damaged portion of the bridge will be removed through emergency contract work.

Authorities have detoured traffic around the closure at Bevington by using Iowa 92, Iowa 28 through Norwalk, and then Iowa 5.
