MONTICELLO, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a ruptured propane line in eastern Iowa has forced the evacuation of several homes.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office says a farmer was using a tractor Wednesday and struck an above ground pipeline near a county road south of Monticello.
There are no reports of fire, but gas is spewing into the air. Jones County Sheriff Greg Graver says the active scene led authorities to evacuate the public one mile in all directions from the leak, including seven homes.
The line carries propane and is owned by energy company Kinder Morgan. The Texas-based company says it has isolated the section of the affected 12-inch line, and no injuries have been reported.
Additional information about the leak is not available.
Monticello is about 40 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids.
