1 killed, 2 injured in crash in northern Iowa

CLARKSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — One man has been killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash in northern Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the roadway was wet with slush at the time of the accident Thursday on Highway 188 near Clarksville.

Authorities say 84-year-old Edward Eilers died after his northbound sports utility vehicle was struck by an oncoming van driven by 30-year-old Joanna Heidemann.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (http://bit.ly/YhRRqC ) reports Heidemann was injured in the accident but is in stable condition. A passenger in Eilers’ car, 79-year-old Georgia Eilers, sustained serious injuries. A 2-year-old boy in Heidemann’s car was treated and released.

Heidemann says she lost control of her van. The patrol says the accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed.
