MONTICELLO, Iowa (AP) — A snowstorm has delayed repair on a ruptured propane line in eastern Iowa that caused the evacuation of several homes.
Jones County Sheriff Greg Graver says crew and equipment hired to fix the line were delayed in Minnesota by poor road conditions. But he says the strong winds are helping disperse the spewing gas.
Authorities say a farmer on a tractor struck the above ground pipeline Wednesday near a county road one mile south of Monticello.
Authorities evacuated the public one mile in all directions from the leak, including 10 homes. Some residents have been allowed back home because of wind direction.
Graver says the evacuation could be lifted Thursday night or Friday morning.
The small city of Monticello is located about 40 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids.
