FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — Thousands of customers in Iowa are without power after a spring storm dumped nearly a foot of snow in parts of the state.
MidAmerican Energy says nearly 2,000 customers are without power, with the bulk in Fort Dodge. Alliant Energy says several hundred customers are without power in northern Iowa, including nearly 500 in Cerro Gordo County.
The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives says more than 2,800 customers are without power, including more than 500 in Winnebago County near the Minnesota state line.
The National Weather Service says the unusual spring snowstorm that began Wednesday afternoon has broken some state records. It includes the most snow recorded in Iowa for the month of May.
