KIMT NEWS 3 – Last night we told you about 22 rifles being stolen in Floyd County. Those weapons are still missing, but in another county, two guns stolen back in February have been found.

The past few month have sent Kim Meek on an emotional roller coaster.

She said, “You feel very vulnerable, you feel mad, you don’t feel safe.”

But she can add relief to the list, now that her assault rifles and her sons BB gun have finally been located, more than two months after their home was broken in to.

Meek said, “He had gone in and out and made several trips, parked most likely outside right in the driveway and went out the basement door and that’s where we saw the footprints in the snow.”

Kim says she knows who stole her property. She slowly began to figure it out after she noticed other items missing.

She said, “I had an iPod, my Bose docking station, my snow shovels, knives, it was just a list of things.”

Kim’s theft situation took a personal turn and that’s something local law enforcement say is a little out of the ordinary.

Clear Lake Police Chief, Greg Peterson said, “Someone may have heard through the grape-vine, through acquaintances, that some individual has guns in their homes. A lot of times, crimes like theft and burglary are crimes of opportunity.”

Clear Lake Police Chief, Greg Peterson says, guns have always been popular items to steal.

Peterson said, “They’re light, they’re easy to take, they’re easy to get rid of and they bring in pretty good money.”

In those cases, law enforcement use a database system to get stolen weapons off the streets and back to their rightful owners.

Peterson said, “Other officers in the course of their duties run across and individual that may have these weapons and would be check the serial numbers and find that they’re stolen.”

Although Kim won’t be getting her guns back anytime soon, because of the investigation, there’s still a small cause for celebration.

Meek said, “My son when I told him his BB gun was found with the other two, he was so happy he was crying.”
