Bomb squad destroys suspicious item in St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — Some residents in St. Cloud were evacuated after a suspicious object was found.

The St. Cloud Times reports (http://on.sctimes.com/13e2uM6 ) police were monitoring the area for much of the day after the item was reported late morning Saturday morning.

The Crow Wing County bomb squad destroyed the item at about 4:45 p.m. and police say it did contain explosives. They were not releasing any other details.

St. Cloud resident Corey Gaulrapp says he discovered the item, which he said he believes is a pipe bomb. He described the object as heavy and white with a fuse.

He says he picked up the object before realizing what it was and called police between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Police are still investigating.
