CORALVILLE, IA — Records from the Iowa Department of Corrections show Lucas Faulkner is being transferred from the Iowa State Penitentiary to a prison with a mental health unit.

Faulkner was transferred to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center on Monday.  According to a DOC description of the facility, it is used as a processing center for inmates to be transferred to other facilities, but it also “runs the only licensed forensic psychiatric hospital in the state, providing inpatient psychiatric and evaluation services to non-adjudicated patients.”

In May 2011, Faulkner was sentenced to life in prison for killing 19-year-old Devin Resh with a hatchet while the two were on a fishing trip in Eagle Grove in 2010.
