Police fire Iowa officer accused of kicking man

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A decorated Des Moines police officer accused of kicking a man in the head has been fired.

Des Moines Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Halifax says Collin Boone was fired May 1.

Boone is accused of kicking Orville Hill in the head in February. Police say Hill had been involved in a crash at the time and he was not cooperative as he was being taken into custody.

Halifax says Boone was with the department for 13 years. The state and police department honored him and other officers for pulling three people from a burning sport utility vehicle in 2011.

There was no public phone listing for Boone.
