Prosecutor calls Osage teen a cold-blooded killer

CLARION, Iowa (AP) — A prosecutor says an Osage teenager is a cold-blooded killer who was not insane when he shot his mother multiple times and tried to rape her.

Assistant Iowa Attorney General Denise Timmins said during her closing argument Tuesday in Wright County District Court in Clarion that 14-year-old Noah Crooks waited for the right time to shoot 37-year-old Gretchen Crooks.

Noah’s attorneys say he suffers from a disorder characterized by periods of extreme rage and violence. Defense attorney William Kutmus called him a sick boy.

Noah is charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in the March 24, 2012, killing of his mother. The teen is relying on an insanity defense.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports ( ) a jury will begin deliberations Wednesday morning.
