KIMT NEWS 3 — While many of us complain about the cold weather, it is having a positive effect when it comes to one of Mother Nature’s deadliest storms.
Unusually cold weather has helped limit the number of tornadoes across the country.
In the past 12 months, we have seen the fewest tornadoes since at least 1954.
So far this month, only three tornadoes have formed.
“Our conditions have not been favorable for tornadoes,” Mower County Emergency Management Coordinator Amy Lammey Said. “We need the warm, the humid, and the wind changes in order to have a tornado to possibly start. So, we haven’t had that yet.”
Despite the lack of severe weather, she adds it is necessary to always be prepared and have a plan in case of nasty weather.
