WASHINGTON DC-It’s a top national honor for police officers and today, a local state trooper was recognized with it in Washington D.C.
Trooper Mark Domino with the Iowa State Patrol, is part of a select group of officers that are getting the “Top Cop” award.

President Barack Obama spoke at the ceremony praising the nation’s police officers for courage and for signing up, in his words, “to do some tough stuff.”

Obama said there are few opportunities to applaud the men and women who help keep the country safe.
The National Association of Police Organizations Top Cops Award is for law enforcement officials who have shown bravery and valor in the line of duty.

Trooper Domino was selected after an incident in Maynard following a bank robbery that left him shot in the shoulder.
