GARNER, IA – A north Iowa woman is looking to raise awareness as she takes part in the Walk MS event this weekend.

Jody Thada of Garner was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis or MS back in the early 90’s and says she still tries to walk for awareness.

The event takes place this Saturday at North Iowa Community College and is expected to draw hundreds of supporters searching for what they believe can one day be a curable disease.

For Jody, she knows support is the most important medicine.

“We have from all over that come for the walk and this walk, we need to help get these drugs going and help support us that have the MS,” said Thada.

Jody has been doing the walk since it started in Mason City and says the growing support over the years, has been overwhelming.

“Those people who are out there, they help us a lot. It’s not anything to be ashamed of, that you have MS, it’s just something that you were dealt with and you just got to keep on going,” said Thada.

Each year, more than 13 thousand walk for MS in neighboring communities in Iowa and Minnesota.

This Saturday morning’s walk starts with check-in at 9 and the walk gets underway at 10.
