MN – As the 2013 Minnesota legislative session winds down, lawmakers are expected to pass a budget bill in the coming days.
The legislation includes state funding for all-day kindergarten. Under the measure, districts that offer it will be fully reimbursed for the cost.
Many districts in our area already have all-day kindergarten, including Glenville-Emmons. Leaders there tell us it helps students start off their education on the right foot.
“Students that are a little bit behind, it gives more time to kind of get caught up at the beginning. Because studies show that that’s when you want to catch the students up, that’s when you want to provide the help and close the gap,” said Glenville-Emmons Principal Jeff Tietje.
Lawmakers plan to pay for education funding through a series of tax increases.
