CLEAR LAKE, IA - It may be safe to say we can finally trade in the snow shovels and winter boots for some sunglasses and tanning lotion.
As temperatures in north Iowa reached a record 90 degrees plus and even southern Minnesota was nearing and breaking records.
With all this heat, many were left looking for a cool down and for residents of Clear Lake, they didn’t have to look far.
“My idea was to come out and enjoy the weather. It’s gonna get pretty hot. It’s kind of warm now but I’m sitting right here by Clear Lake and there’s a nice breeze coming off the lake and it’s a gorgeous view. So I wouldn’t want to miss this,” said Molly Clark.
Molly wasn’t alone, a number of people crowded Clear Lake’s shores in hopes of enjoying some fun in the sun.
“It’s like one of the first warm days, so we’re just trying to get tan and start summer,” said Sophia Benjegerdes of Clear Lake.
Temperatures throughout may have kept many on their toes. Whether it’s rain, sleet, or snow, everything before this day, makes these current temps seem heaven-sent.
“I was looking for a park and I thought of the lake so this is the first I’ve ever been out here. It’s pretty nice out, I brought my book out, kicked off the shoes and it’s a pretty nice breeze off the lake so it’s not too bad,” said Brandon Brockshus who is an Iowa State University student.
Unfortunately, you can only be out in this warm weather for so long.
“If there wasn’t the breeze today, I probably wouldn’t be sitting out here in the sun. I might be trying to cool off in some air conditioning. There’s a nice breeze and I can cool off by walking in the lake a bit, that’s still pretty cold,” said Clark.
