ALBERT LEA, MN — Postal carriers were doing much more than picking up package and mail this past weekend.
They were also picking up food for the U.S. Postal Service “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive.
In Albert Lea, postal carriers picked up more than 14,000 pounds of food from the community.
That food will be donated to area food shelves.
While doing something good, it also allowed Albert Lea to capture a little bragging rights in a friendly rivalry with Austin.
“They only collected 10,700 pounds,” Albert Lea Postmaster John Novotny said. “So I would like to congratulate Albert Lea and thank the community for helping is out and helping all those people we donate the food to.”
He says it was a great sight to see all the food raised.
And he adds if you weren’t home Saturday, you can still put food out for the carriers.
