AUSTIN, MN — The pedals are moving forward on a plan that would link two bike trails in our area.
Mower County Commissioners voted unanimously to commit to eventually connecting the Shooting Star Trail with Iowa’s Wapsi-Great Western Trail.
However, that will take a back seat for now as the board looks to expand the Shooting Star Trail to Austin.
Leaders say they are working in hopes of getting that expansion done, before expanding south.
“Over the last 10 to 15 years, we’ve done pieces of it and I know the board has a real concerted effort to finish it off all at once if they can,” Mower County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said.
He says talks have already begun on that expansion project to Austin, which includes getting routes prepared and talking to land owners to see if they are willing to sell land along the routes.
