KIMT News 3 – Jim Schowalter grew up listening to classic country-western music.

But for him, one artist always stood out.

“Well I used to help run a jukebox shop, pinball and jukeboxes and Willie had an occasional record that would come out. I’ve known him that way more than any other way,” said Jim.

Jim used to help maintain more than 130 jukeboxes around the North Iowa area.

And he always made sure Willie Nelson records were playing.

But now he won’t be listening to the music from a record, he’ll be seeing him live for the first time.

“Just to see him live, instead of hearing his records to see the person,” said Jim.

Jamey Cassels, a Social Worker at Westview Care Center, where Jim lives, is one of the people who helped make Jim’s dream come true.

“We do person directed care and as part of that program we came up with dream catchers. So if we hear a resident or family talking about an experience that they would like to do we try to make that happen,” said Cassels.

And for Cassels, making this a reality is just a small way to show the residents they care.

“He’s been exposed to Willie Nelson since he was very young and he also thinks it’s very cool that he’s 80, and Willie’s 80, and that’s something that’s really neat to him and I think he’s always identified with Willie Nelson he’s always wanted to go, so he’s finally gets to go,” said Cassels.

For Jim, there isn’t anyone he’d rather see take this stage.

“Willie,  a lot of the country western people I’ve enjoyed over the years and Willie stands out as one close to the top,” said Jim.
