STEWARTVILLE, MN – Try to imagine this: Running for 24 hours straight. It may sound crazy, but that’s exactly what a local man is doing.
Jim Parry is a teacher at Stewartville Middle School. Each year he holds an “”Mr. Parry’s Endurance Challenge” to help promote a healthy lifestyle.
After high fives from his students, Mr. Parry sets off. His annual endurance challenge is underway.
“The challenge was for people to get in 24 hours of exercise over 8 weeks. And to finish it up, I end-up running for 24 hours straight,” said Parry.
Even he admits that 24 hours is a really long time to run.
“It’s the overnight that gets pretty difficult. When it gets dark, cold, and I’m tired, it can be miserable,” Parry said.
But with every single step and every exhausted breath he knows he’s not alone.
“There are a lot of people that show up to run or walk with me, and I rely on them to get me through,” said Parry.
So hour after hour, Mr. Parry chugs along. Challenging not only himself, but also the entire community, to endure.
“If we don’t set our limits and say I can only do this amount, but I’m going to go out and I’m going to try to do as much as I possibly can and not give up. And not stop when I think that I’m done, but stop really when I am done. That applies in the classroom and in life,” said Parry.
