CERRO GORDO COUNTY, IA – In this month’s Volunteer Connection segment, we are taking a break from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, and getting back to nature. And we’re finding out, you can do that, and give of your time, at the same time!
The Lime Creek Nature Center is really in need of volunteers, especially on the weekends. The volunteers are what make the center run, and if there are no extra helpers, the center can’t always open.
Curt Krieger is retired from working for the Iowa DNR and has been using his time now to volunteer at the nature center, something he’s been doing for the past three years. He leads tours and helps out at special events, like the Fall Festival and the Halloween Hike. Curt says it’s great because you meet so many different people, and get a chance to watch the wildlife as well.
Todd Von Ehwegen is a Naturalist for Cerro Gordo County and says you don’t need a background in nature, and that they will teach you what you need to know. There are different shifts you can work; on Saturdays there are two shifts, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm. On Sundays there is a 1pm-5pm shift. There are also special programs that they need help with on different days. For more information, you can call the Lime Creek Nature Center at 641-423-5309.
