Charles City, IA – It wasn’t your typical trip to McDonald’s.
“We’re sandbagging and trying to get ahead of it we hope we don’t need to. We hope it’s all for a waste,” said Scott Soifer.
Soifer owns the Charles City McDonald’s.
He says he learned his lesson after the flood of 2008, and won’t be caught unprepared again.
“We lost the restaurant; we were closed for over six months. Several of our employees we had to have them go work in other restaurants so we’re being a little over reactive,” said Soifer.
But Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple says everyone in town is being very optimistic.
“Even if we do get more rain tonight, that’s keeping our fingers crossed, so we’re fully anticipating the river to hold steady or even start to fall through the overnight hours,” said Whipple.
And so is Soifer.
“We just figured we’d get ahead of it and keep it out so we can keep everyone working and stay open for our customers,” said Soifer.
