Mitchell County Roadblocks

OSAGE, IA - While many Mitchell County roads are still blocked off for construction, that’s not stopping some residents from trespassing on the properties.

Roadblocks have been placed at a some locations throughout Mitchell County, but some are still crossing lines and moving signs to get a better look at the situation.

This after the major damage severe weather caused on Highway 9 and other county roads.

Law enforcement says this is a dangerous and illegal move and trespassers will face consequences.

“We have had a few complaints of people driving around traffic control devices. The risk that they run when they do that is one, harm to themselves and their vehicles and two, possibly getting a citation. So we ask that they respect those signs,” said Sheriff Greg Beaver of Mitchell County.

Sheriff Beaver says he understands the curiosity some people would have when seeing such dramatic damage, but safety needs to be a priority.

“The county engineer and Iowa DOT have identified areas that we cannot have traffic on because they’re not safe and I understand people’s curiosity wanting to see the damage, but they’ve got to temper that curiosity and they’ve got to stay safe,” said Sheriff Beaver.

Many major roadways are still under construction. Highway 9 leading into Osage is still expected to be blocked off for at least the next month.
