AUSTIN, MN – it’s estimated that 25 percent of adults in the United States suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Now, a group from our area is working to raise awareness about this issue.
The Mental Health Walk took place in Austin on Friday. The yearly event is organized by the Local Advisory Council of Mower County.
Participants said they have a message for anyone who may be suffering from a mental illness.
“If they feel that there’s something that’s not quite right, that they should not be afraid to seek help. And that’s your first step is to get some help with medication and therapy and not to be afraid of it,” said Cindy Bates, who took part in the walk.
The walk is held every May, which is also National Mental Health Awareness Month.
