DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Davenport couple’s lawsuit says the city hasn’t properly maintained the sanitary and storm sewer system and is to blame for a flooded basement.
The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/11y39UE ) Bettendorf attorney Mike Meloy filed the lawsuit Friday for Ronald and Linda Wiebold. The suit names the city, Mayor Bill Gluba and Public Works Director Mike Clarke.
The suit claims that by not maintaining the sewer system, the city and officials were to blame for a sewage backup after heavy rains in April.
Meloy says the couple is seeking monetary damages and an order that Davenport improve the sewer system.
City spokeswoman Jennifer Nahra says the city is processing the Wiebolds’ claim and will pay for damage if the city is found responsible.
