Iowa teen faces misdemeanor for barn fire

ROYAL, Iowa (AP) — A 13-year-old boy accused of setting fire to a barn in northwest Iowa has been charged with a misdemeanor.

The Sioux City Journal reports ( ) the boy was charged with reckless use of fire for the Monday night incident near Royal.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the boy’s grandfather saw smoke coming from the barn and put out the fire. It burned 24 square feet.

Authorities say the boy’s siblings, ages 6 and 10, where present at the time of the fire. Additional information is not available.
