MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A civil trial over the costs of an Iowa field fire set by three children in 2011 has been put on hold.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/16KUUOm ) the non-jury trial was set to begin Thursday in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. claims in a lawsuit that more than $8,500 is owed for the October 2011 fire south of Mason City. The company is filing on behalf of Gary Weiner, of Rockwell. The children and their parents are named in the lawsuit.
The children, who were 12 at the time of the fire, were charged with several counts of arson and criminal mischief. They were given probation.
The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify juveniles accused of a crime or their family.
