Carroll newspaper publisher James B. Wilson dies

CARROLL, Iowa (AP) — James B. Wilson, business leader and publisher of The Carroll Daily Times Herald in western Iowa for 36 years, has died. He was 69.

Douglas Burns, co-owner of the Daily Times Herald, confirmed his uncle died Monday at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll from congestive heart and kidney failure.

The newspaper reports ( ) Wilson became publisher in 1977 following his father’s death. Wilson is credited with impacting the city by improving business and commercial development, health care and education.

Ron Schechtman, a former city mayor and retired judge, called Wilson “one of Carroll’s great ambassadors.”

Visitation is scheduled Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. A funeral service is scheduled Friday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carroll.
