Minn. man missing along Canadian border

From karate to power lifting to a sport our area knows a thing or two about, day two of the first annual River City Sports Festival was jam packed Saturday.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man is missing along the Canadian border in the area of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico Provincial Park.

Ontario Provincial Police say they responded to a distress call initiated by a satellite phone on Sunday evening. The call came from Basswood Lake, which runs along the international border in the two parks.

Officers were unable to locate the people in distress before nightfall Sunday, but located a woman Monday morning. She was taken to Atikokan, Ontario.

A Minnesota man remained missing as of Thursday afternoon. Ontario Provincial Police are conducting aerial, ground and underwater searches.

Authorities tell WDIO-TV the man and woman both are from Minnetonka, a western Twin Cities suburb. Their names were not immediately released.
