Iowa man accused of tampering with police video

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A Coralville man has been accused of tampering with video that police say recorded several important interviews, including a confession.

The Coralville Police Department says 35-year-old David Rose put a piece of paper over an interrogation camera after his interview with officers in May. He’s also accused of disconnecting a microphone.

Detective Jeffrey Barkhoff says officers conducted four interviews before realizing the tampering, which resulted in a black and silent screen.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/126E5dD ) Rose faces four aggravated misdemeanor counts of obstructing prosecution. He had been arrested on felony burglary and theft charges.

Police say it’s unclear at this point what the implications will be of losing the videotaped confession in the separate case.

Court records do not list an attorney for Rose.
