Trash train derails in Baltimore area; no one hurt

LANSDOWNE, Md. (AP) — Police say a CSX train carrying trash has derailed southeast of Baltimore, but that no one was hurt.

Baltimore County police Cpl. Cathy Batton says the derailment occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday in Lansdowne. She said several rail cars were on their sides, but that there were no injuries. No hazardous materials were involved.

Last month in Rosedale in Baltimore County, a 45-car CSX train carrying sodium chlorate in one car derailed after it hit a truck at a crossing. The truck driver was injured, and the collision led to an explosion and fire that caused damage to nearby buildings and sent black and gray smoke into the air that could be seen for miles. CSX Transportation said the hazardous chemical was the source of the explosion.
