Man nicknamed ‘ninja robber’ headed to Iowa prison

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A man nicknamed “the ninja robber” is headed to prison for his involvement in several robberies in 2008.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports ( ) 33-year-old Ahkinea Cox was sentenced Friday in Johnson County District Court to 25 years in prison.

Cox pleaded guilty last month to several robbery charges under an agreement. He will serve his terms concurrently, and will be in prison for at least 17 years.

Prosecutors say Cox robbed a gas station, as well as a grocery store and another business. He is accused of dressing in black, ninja-like attire for some of the robberies.

Cox’s attorney argued against the mandatory sentencing and said his client’s limited intelligence should be taken into account. A judge said he wasn’t going to change the terms of a plea deal.
