Iowa patrol investigates fatal wrong-way crash

DESOTO, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are investigating why a woman was driving the wrong way on a highway in central Iowa before a fatal crash.

The Iowa State Patrol says 24-year-old Megan Wakeham, of West Des Moines, was killed early Sunday morning on Interstate 80 near DeSoto.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports ( ) Wakeham was driving east in the westbound lanes when her car went head-on into a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Jessie Leeper, of Adair. A vehicle driven by 49-year-old Lori Wallace, of Greenfield, then rear-ended Leeper’s car.

Leeper and Wallace were taken to nearby hospitals. Additional information about their conditions was not available.
