Iowa City police: 2 men face charges in bomb scare

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Iowa City say two men face intoxication charges in connection with a potential bomb threat over the weekend.

Iowa City police say 58-year-old Tobias Hermann and 44-year-old Maurice Graham were charged with public intoxication for their alleged actions on Sunday as a bomb squad examined a suspicious package.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/19n6pLU ) Hermann is accused of yelling “boom” while authorities worked nearby. Graham is accused of wandering into the crime scene.

Court records indicate both men pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police say another man, 32-year-old Steven Crittenden, set off a firecracker near the investigation. He has been charged with a serious misdemeanor charge of reckless use of explosives. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Authorities later determined the package was not dangerous.
