MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Mason City man convicted of kidnapping a woman has appealed a judge’s denial of his motion for post-conviction relief.
Michael Jon Winters pleaded guilty in 2011 to using a rifle and kidnapping a Mason City woman in 2010. He detained the woman a short time.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/14wXXGk ) Winters was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Before his sentencing, a judge denied his motion to withdraw his guilty plea because it was part of a plea deal.
Court records show the 59-year-old Winters filed his latest appeal on June 3.
A judge rejected Winters’ second application for post-conviction relief in May. The judge says Winters’ arguments over his attorney and the plea had already been ruled upon.
